Congratulations to Dr. Lucia Norwood
The National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association will honor Dr. Lucia Norwood with the Thomas E. Frederick Award of Excellence at the National Conference of High School Directors of Athletics. This award honors Mr. Frederick’s contributions to the National Federation of State High School Associations and his work in establishing the NIAAA. The conference will be held December 9-13, 2006, in Anaheim, California.
The Thomas E. Frederick Award of Excellence is a prestigious award presented annually to an NIAAA member for loyalty to the association and for contributions to the profession of athletics administration that represent excellence in achievement. Dr. Norwood has been a member of NIAAA for 25 years, and has served on their Board of Directors.
Dr. Norwood is currently the Executive Director of the Georgia Athletic Directors Association and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Georgia High School Association. She also has written curriculum for the Community Coach Education Program and is heavily involved as an instructor in that program.
Dr. Norwood retired from her duties as Athletics Coordinator for Dekalb County Schools three years ago. She served that county for 38 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. As a representative of the GHSA, she was instrumental in establishing state championship competitions in Gymnastics, Fast Pitch Softball, and Cheerleading.
All of us at the GHSA are extremely proud of the recognition that deservedly goes to Lucia. We are also grateful for the dedicated service that she has given, and continues to give, to the GHSA.
