Eligibility and EOCT Scores

The by-laws of the Georgia High School Association specify that students gain or lose eligibility for participation in GHSA activities on the first day of each semester. The delivery system for scores from fall end-of-course tests has made is difficult to verify student eligibility fully on the first day of the spring semester. Recent communications from the Department of Education have indicated a late-January delivery of EOCT scores for Math should be expected.

In an attempt to resolve this difficulty each January, the following set of procedures has been developed by the Georgia High School Association, and approved by the Georgia Department of Education.

  1. Personnel at GHSA schools who submit eligibility reports to the GHSA for students participating in winter or spring sports who have courses with mandatory end-of-course tests should use the following procedures. .
  2. Following the final exams for fall classes, the following students will meet GHSA eligibility requirements even if there is an end-of-course test score missing:
    1. Those who have passed 3 other block courses or 5 other traditional courses that do not require end-of-course tests.
    2. Those who have a class average of 83% or higher in courses requiring an end-of-course test, AND have passed enough other courses to meet the GHSA eligibility requirements.
  3. Students whose eligibility will depend on passing courses that require end-of-course tests in order to be eligible will not be eligible until these tests results are received, and it has been determined that the student is eligible academically.
