Damage and power outages from Hurricane Matthew may cause the postponement of GHSA playoff events this week. The GHSA office will waive certain rules and work with member schools on a case-by-case basis if they are not able to stick to the original schedule.
In Volleyball, the schedule for Oct. 18(second round playoff games for Class A and Classes 3A-7A, and the first round for Class 2A) will be moved to Oct. 20 in order to allow the completion of several Area tournaments and then first round matches in Classes A and 3A through 7A.
But in Volleyball, as well as Softball, the originally published schedule for this week’s playoff contests should be adhered to if at all possible.
If it is not possible to adhere to the original schedule, school officials must contact the respective GHSA sports coordinators to discuss changes. The GHSA coordinators are as follows: Football – Tommy Whittle (706-647-7473, ext. 23, cell- 404-502-7025 or email@example.com); Softball – Ernie Yarbrough (706-647-7473, ext. 27, cell- 770-584-5044 firstname.lastname@example.org); and Volleyball – Denis Tallini (706-647-7473, ext. 34, cell- 337-298-7119 or email@example.com).
Fans should check with schools directly to see if certain games have been moved or rescheduled before attending events.
Also related to Hurricane Matthew, all coaches education classes (Community Coach Program) scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10 & 11, at Calvary Day School have been canceled! The new date for the PREPARE/First Aid class is Oct. 12 from 6-10 p.m., and the Principles For Coaching class is Oct. 15 from 9 a.m., to 5 p.m. Also the PREPARE/First Aid class scheduled at Statesboro High School on Saturday, Oct. 8 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11.
