Tommy helps coordinate Football, One Act Play, Literary and Soccer. He began work for the GHSA in 2013. Among his duties are rule interpretations in his sports and activities, coordination of regular season and post season events, and working with contest officials. Tommy has a background of coaching (23 years) and athletic administration (17 years) that dates back to 1974.
Tommy was honored by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club for being one of Georgia’s Winningest Basketball Coaches with 602 victories when he retired from coaching at age 45 to become Assistant Director/Vice President of Interscholastics for the Georgia Independent School Association. During his coaching career in many different sports, his teams won multiple State Championships in Basketball, Track and Field, Football and Softball.
Born and raised near Rochelle, Tommy attended Wilcox County High School, and was a 1974 graduate of Georgia Tech. Tommy has post graduate work at Georgia Southern and Valdosta State University.
Tommy is the proud father of four daughters, (Mandy, Scarlett, Joy and Tamzy) and six fantastic grandchildren (Brady, Laina Lee, Shelby, Katie Scarlett, Lauryn, and Ben).
Tommy’s wife, Deenia, is a teacher at Upson-Lee North Elementary in Thomaston. Tommy and Deenia reside near Thomaston and also have a home in Rebecca, Georgia.
All types of sports, hunting and fishing, genealogy, reading, farming, and gardening are among Tommy’s interests. He is a Deacon in his church.
