Mill Creek Named SAAC Student Section of Year

In an effort to reward good sportsmanship while having fun and showing great school spirit, the GHSA’s Student Athlete Advisory Council sponsored the first ever SAAC Student Section Spirit Challenge. There were 15 schools that submitted videos demonstrating their support by exemplifying rituals for games, participating in pep rallies and showing up and being heard at many other school events.

Congratulations to Mill Creek High School, which emerged as the winner and has been named the 2021 GHSA Student Section of the Year! The winners will receive a large banner for their student section and a trophy to take back to their school presented during halftime of the Class 7A state football championship at Georgia State University on Dec. 11. Creekview High School came in second, with Buford High School taking third place.

To determine the winner, seven judges scored the videos against the rubric that was posted earlier in the season. After determining the top five videos with those scores, the SAAC met on a zoom call to watch and discuss the videos together. The council expressed kudos to the schools that included the entire student body through pep rallies, games of multiple sports, and included many groups like band, dance teams, etc.
