Golf State Tees Up for 36 Holes in 2017

For the first time, the GHSA Golf State Championships, presented by EZ-Go, will be 36-hole events held on May 22 and 23, 2017 on 14 golf courses around the state. Teams will advance to the state championships directly from Area tournaments based on order of finish with qualifying scores.

The GHSA joins 45 other high school associations round the nation that play 36- to 54-hole championships. The State Executive Committee approved the change after endorsements from the golf advisory committee and the Georgia High School State Golf Coaches Association. Jay Russell, the state coordinator for GHSA golf says, “We are very excited to be going to a 36-hole event in Georgia. A lot of time and research has gone into this reorganization. I want to personally thank the high school golf coaches in Georgia for their persistence in making this happen. I also want to express appreciation in advance to our 14 host sites for their commitment to high school golf.”
