GHSA FLAG FOOTBALL WEEKLY BLAST #4

EACH WEEK THE “WEEKLY BLAST” WILL ADDRESS CONCERNS/ISSUES AS POINTS OF EMPHASIS OBSERVED IN GAMES DURING THE REGULAR SEASON.

Diving – GHSA- Any player, including the runner, is allowed to dive. Unlike in 2019, there is no longer a specific rule prohibiting a player to dive.

Screen Blocking- Rule-9-3-3. The offensive screen block shall take place without contact. The screen blocker shall have their hands and arms at their side or behind their back when screen blocking. Any use of the hands, arms, elbows, legs, or body to initiate contact during an offensive player’s screen block is illegal. A blocker may use their hand or arm to break a fall or to retain their balance. A player must be on their feet before, during, and after screen blocking. Penalty: Personal Foul, Illegal Contact, 10 yards (S38).

Drones – GHSA- Like all GHSA sanctioned events, drones cannot be visible from the field of play. “Out of sight out of mind.”

Flag Removal – Rule-9-4-1- When a runner loses their flag belt either accidently, inadvertently (not removed by grabbing or pulling), or on purpose, play continues. The deflagging reverts to a 1 hand tag of the runner between the shoulders and knees by an opponent.

Flag Guarding- Cold Weather Gear- Rule 1-4-1- As the temperature starts to drop, regardless of the clothing worn ie hoodie, the flag belt should not be covered. The defender must have access to the flag belt.
