Flag Football 'Weekly Blast' for Oct. 17

GHSA FLAG FOOTBALL WEEKLY BLAST #2

EACH WEEK THE “WEEKLY BLAST” WILL ADDRESS CONCERNS/ISSUES AS POINTS OF EMPHASIS OBSERVED IN GAMES DURING THE REGULAR SEASON.

Game Clock – It is preferred to have a visible game clock. It is recommended that game officials meet with the game clock operator prior to the game to ensure proper operation, especially under 1 minute of the half. If issues arise with the operation of the visible game clock, the official game time should be kept on the field by the back judge and the visible game clock should be turned off. In this case, the back judge should inform both teams of the time remaining.

Blocking downfield – There is no specific rule prevent blocking downfield. Screen blocking techniques are the same no matter the location on the field. If the screen blocker initiates contact, it is a foul for illegal contact.

Team Choice on Try- Rule 8-5-1- Once the offense makes their choice on a try, they may change the decision only when either team takes a charged team timeout. The value of the try may not be changed if a dead ball foul occurs after the ready for play signal, or if a live ball foul occurs during the try.

Team Box Rule- Rule 1-2-2- The team box is 2 yards off the sideline and between the 20-yard lines. Coaches, non-players, and other team personnel need to remain in the team box during live ball action. This is a safety concern for all parties involved including the game officials.

Punt Formations- Rule 6-1-3- Neither team may enter the neutral zone until the ball is punted. The formation requirements for a punt play are the same as a regular scrimmage down.

MAXPREPS – Schools are required to put games schedules, and report scores, in MaxPreps.  It is also recommend to add your team roster.
